Brief History
Many years ago in the LNER's heydays, there was a need for a short line for the company to test out their new locos before being sent off for mainline service. The was known as Doncaster Valley Test Line, known better today as the Doncaster Valley Railway! Here, some of Gresley's finest pieces of work can be seen. From Mallard to the occasional visit from the NRM's other locos, Flying Scotsman and Green Arrow! We operate every weekend and holiday and even on some week days. the majority of our services are steam hauled but there are the occasional diesel hauled trains from locos such as 67005 'Queens Messenger' or our resident station pilot 08600 'Ivor'! The line was unfortunatly shut down once BR was in full swing, but it was never stripped up and dismantled like some other lines in the North Eastern area. As an LNER line, we strive to restore LNER or north eastern built locos but we have the odd LMS GWR and SR engines, such as Bude, Windsor Castle and Ex LMS SD&JR 'Jinty' no.24.
The line runs from Wheldrake to Earlsford, with the two middle stations, Hopkins Road, closest to Wheldrake, and Doncaster Junction, the site of our works, and Mainline connection.
